No verdict in murder trial

A jury in the trial of a woman accused of stabbing her husband to death have failed to reach a verdict.

Teresa Hanson, 54, who denied murder, allegedly killed Paul Hanson in a “flash of temper” in the kitchen of their £250,000 semi-detached home in Little London Lane, West Cowick.

Today (Thursday, June 22), following a trial at Hull Crown Court, the jury were unable to reach a verdict after deliberating for about 11 hours.

Mrs Hanson now faces a re-trial in September.

She claimed that her husband simply “walked into” the kitchen knife she was holding as she was chopping onions for the evening meal.

Mr Hanson, 54, a construction-site boss, immediately collapsed to the floor and lost consciousness following the attack just three days after Christmas last year.

He was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary by ambulance but pronounced dead on arrival after suffering a “catastrophic” wound to his heart.

Judge John Thackray KC set a re-trial date of September 11. Mrs Hanson was bailed until then.
